Healthcare:
In
the legislature this year, Rep. Erhardt supported new policies to
reduce long term costs. Ron supported reforms that emphasize the
quality of health care to help direct the health care industry to a
more quality-focused approach rather than the current system that
puts too much emphasis on the number of services delivered without
regard to their quality.
In order to keep
government health care costs under control, tax credits were
passed for previously uninsured people who purchased private
insurance. Employers who offer consumer-directed options to
their employees will also receive credits. By encouraging
private options, the cost to taxpayers is controlled while still
expanding coverage and preserving public programs for the truly
vulnerable. Rep. Erhardt supported these measures.
Ron also supported
funding for nursing homes this session. After a 2 percent
increase in 2007, nursing homes receive a 1 percent increase in
2008 and a one-time increase of an additional 1 percent.
