Ron Erhardt's days of being effective in the Legislature are over because he does not have a party. Staunton's snipe reflects someone who does not understand how the Capitol works. It is an institution that is built on trust, respect and seniority. These characteristics are far more important than party labels. After 18 years of standing on principle and making tough votes, Erhardt commands the respect of his legislative peers, who have repeatedly put him in leadership positions. Ron will caucus with the party that wins the majority of the House seats. Because of his seniority and personal relationships with members from both parties, he anticipates he will likely chair a committee.
